DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY

The department of Anatomy has been started since 2003. The department possesses efficient sets of faculty members with ample teaching experience. The department is well equipped to conduct MBBS course.

Human anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body and the relationship between its parts. Anatomy consists the basic study line for the medical professionals. Since the study of medicine is incomplete without anatomy, so a very well defined objective has been prepared to train the students in gross anatomy, micro anatomy, neuro anatomy, developmental anatomy, experimental anatomy, genetics and updating with advances in human sciences.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

The department has got qualified faculty members as per (Medical Council of India) MCI requirements to provide quality teaching to undergraduate students, for practical, tutorial and theory classes.

  1. The department is well equipped with all modern Bio- chemical gadgets.
  2. There is a central bio-chemical Laboratory to cater to the need of bio- chemical investigations of the hospital patients.
  3. There are 23 bio-chemical parameters assessed daily through 24 hours service.
  4. Recently external quality assurance system has been introduced for giving accurate results.

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE

The department of Medicine has been functioning since the inception of this institute over the last about three years. The department consists of efficient faculty members consisting adequate members of Professors, Assistant Professor and Tutors for teaching and clinical work. The clinical work consists of OPD and Indoor facilities for outpatients and inpatients respectively.

There are 80 beds available in Medicine Department with AC room facilities and cabin facilities. There are 6 beds available in ICU with ventilators and monitor facilities. The ICU is functioned by experienced and enthusiastic and skilled doctors and nurses. ECG facility is available in the indoor ward. Besides facilities like Haemodialysis, Endoscopy, ERCP, 2D ECHO, TMT and EEG are also available.

The services being rendered by the concerned supers-specialists such as the Nephrologist, Gastroenterologist, Cardiologist, Neurologist and Medical Oncologist.

DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY

Department of Surgery in KIMS is headed by Prof. Sashi Bhusan Mishra who has worked as Prof. & HOD, Surgery at MKCG Medical College, Berhampur. He is an eminent teacher and very good surgeon. He has experience of performing many major surgical procedures before joining KIMS and also in this hospital. Besides him there are seven other surgical specialists and three super specialists in the department. These specialists take care of departmental indoor, OPDs, emergency patients.

General Surgery department is also having other specialized wings. We have performed several major surgeries like total thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, radical mastectomies, oeso-phagogastrectomies, abdominoperinial pull through operation, radical nephrectomies in addition to all routine general surgical procedures.

We have a video, endoscopy unit back up for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for our patients. Radiology department having multisliced CT scan, USG machine and Fluroscopy helps us for diagnosis and conducting percutaneous procedures. Advance laboratory set up in KIMS with autoanalyser, cytopathology and histopathology section also give a supportive hand in managing our difficult & critically ill patients.

Department is having a 4 bedded surgical ICU back up for critical pre-operative and post operative patients. Department also conducts regular academic activities like seminars, case discussions, journal clubs to improve the scientific knowledge and update our specialists for advance technologies.

DEPARTMENT OF OBST. & GYNAECOLOGY

Our hospital has a well equipped Obst. & Gynaecology department with a team of dedicated trained doctors rendering 24 hr. coverage. Regular OPD services along with cancer screening, family planning counseling, facilities for all type of modern investigations like hormonal assay, ultrasonography, hysterosalpingi graphy are done here.

  1. 50 bedded indoor with AC/Non AC Cabin, AC/Non AC ward with well trained nursing staffs.
  2. Labour room with modern equipments like radiant warmer, baby incubator, photo therapy units with facility for fetal monitoring. Separate AC septic labour room and AC eclampsia room with all modern life supporting device to manage all type of critical cases.
  3. Well equipped modern operation theatre with life sharing backup. All type of conventional surgeries, laparoscopic surgeries, hysteroscopic surgeries, cancer surgeries conducted by trained doctors.
  4. ICU & NICU with sophisticated equipments such as pulse oxymeter, ventilator to handle highly complicated and critical cases.
  5. KIMS has been declared by the Govt. of Orissa to conduct medical terminations of pregnancy and sterilization procedures.
  6. We have all gadgets of infertility work up including regular follicular study, hormonal assay and ovulation induction etc.

DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS

Services Newborn care attending all high risk deliveries for Resuscitation and stabilization in labour room/operation room. Neonatal intensive care services for critically ill babies.

  6. Early referral to pediatric surgeon(KIMS) for emergency surgery for TRACHEO-Esophageal fistula, Diaphragmatic hernia etc.

  • PICU - Intensive care for critically ill infants & children
  • Special care children ward for treatment of Acute illness in children
  • Adolescent friendly clinic (10-19 yrs) starting from 1st July'07 for special of Adolescent boys and give including needs guidance/counseling.
  • Immunization services: Health check up of well babies and giving immunization as per universal immunization practices of Govt. of India to advice on special vaccines (Optional)

DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPEDICS

The Orthopedics Department is providing all types of modern Orthopedic procedures for qualitative treatment to the patients at the lowest cost and minimal time. The persons being harassed elsewhere are dealt here carefully with minimum expenditure. Modern facilities like interlocking, DCP & DHS are being done under C-Arm control.

Arrangements are being made for higher Orthopedic procedures like joint replacement and Spinal Surgery. There is also provision for high quality X-Ray and CT Scan.

DEPARTMENT OF SKIN & VD

Department of Skin & VD of KIMS has facilities for taking care of the OPD & Indoor patients suffering from different acute and chronic disease of Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Leprosy.

Facilities for investigations of these diseases like Skin smear, Skin Biopsy, cultures for Fungus are also available. For early detection of HIV infection, Skin & VD department is in constant touch with Microbiology Department and similarly for early detection of Skin Cancer and other Skin diseases with Pathology Department. At present the Department is headed by Dr. S.C Bal, MD, FCGP( a senior & well known Dermatologist) who is well trained for Training of Trainers of HIV infection and counseling of HIV cases by NACO.

This department is also involved with academic activities like Seminars, case discussions, journals clubs to improve the scientific knowledge.

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

The department is well equipped with types of modern equipments. There is a central microbiology laboratory to cater to the need of microbiological investigations of the hospital patients providing 24 hr services. The internal quality control is maintained by procuring different ATCC type cultures and biological indicators for checking sterilization by autoclave. The external quality is under processing. Professor and HOD being the chair person of infection control committee of Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital looks into the control of infection of the entire hospital (by regular cultures by different OTs and wards before and after fumigation). RNTCP(revised national tuberculosis control programme), Diagnostic division is guided by microbiology department.

DEPARTMENT OF FORENSIC MEDICINE

Forensic Medicine deals with the application of medical knowledge to administration of law & Toxicology deals with the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of poisons and the method of detecting them. In its broadest definition Forensic Medicine is the application of science to those criminal and civil laws that are enforced by police agencies & courts. Law & order without Forensic Medicine is like fish without water. Forensic Medicine is a fascinating field of endeavour, arguably the most exciting, dynamic and constantly challenging area of medical specialization. It is also one of the most complex and intellectually demanding professional pursuits, combining as it does the vast & seemingly diverse bodies of knowledge that comprise two of world's oldest and noblest professions, law and medicine. Without justice, law and order there can be no civilization.

Modern Forensic Science is rapidly changing. Our department headed by Dr. Asis Kumar Ray, designed to meet the precise requirement of students, practitioners and law enforcement authorities in the forensic field in the light of modern trends and recent knowledge. Our department is well equipped with following facilities.

Our department possesses qualified faculty members as per MCI to provide quality teaching to undergraduate students in both practical & theory.

  2. Modern Gallery type Mortuary having seat arrangement.
  3. Well furnished departmental library cum seminar room having audiovisual aid.
  4. Histopathological lab well equipped with all modern instruments.
  5. Nicely arranged museum having lot of specimens, wax models, photographs & various weapons like modern ballistics.

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY

The clinical examinations of Psychiatric patients in OPD are done in the psychiatry OPD everyday except Sunday. The examination assessments and evaluation of the OPD and inpatients of the different wards like Medicine, O&G, Surgery, ICU and Casualty when they are referred to me and if they are admitted in medical ward by me. The Psychiatric emergencies services also provided.

Besides this Psychotherapeutic measures like counseling and patient's rehabilitation techniques at their respective homes are dealt with. Tends to provide family mental health education and awareness programmes in the community by organizing small awareness camps in the schools and in the community. Also dealt with substance abuse cases, Alcoholics & drugs addicts having psychosocial problems. Tens to provide Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) under anaesthesia(modified ECT) without help of anaesthesia dept. and installation of ECT machine.

Pathological investigations & Radiological investigations are also required and that is being provided as and when necessary. Provision of EEG through Neurologist can be provided when necessary.

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY

KIMS and the attached Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital with the state of the art equipments carry out routine investigations including the following specialized pathological tests :

  1. Histopathological works using Imported Automated Leica Microtome and Leica Automated Vaccum Tissue Processor.
  2. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology.
  3. Ultrasound and CT guided FNAC
  4. Intra-operative FNAC for instant diagnosis to monitor the surgical procedure.
  5. Biochemical analysis with help of fully Automated Computerised Biochemical Analyser.
  6. Haematological procedures especially with the help of fully computerized Automated Cell Counter.
  7. Besides the department provides round the clock pathological services and advancing shortly for undertaking Immunofluorescent study particularly the kidney biopsy specimen, Immunohistochemistry and tissue typing and matching.

DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY

Pharmacology deals with the study of drugs and drug development. Basically it says what the drug does to the body and what the body does to the drug when administered. Pharmacology was traditionally associated with study of drugs in animals while the clinical application was regarded as an entirely independent and mystical skill of the practitioner. Now with the concept of "Evidence Based Medicine", the aim of teaching Pharmacology to medical students is to provide a rational basis for choosing and using drugs skillfully to relieve patients ailments based on the information obtained from clinical trials.

This department is well equipped to meet the requirement of students and to carry out drug development and clinical research. The department has well equipped experimental pharmacology laboratory, pharmacy laboratory, a well furnished library, seminar cum demonstration room, lecture theaters with audiovisual aid; a well furnished museum having various specimens, wax models, photographs, flow charts and specimens of indigenous as well as modern drugs.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY

Physiology also been considered as one of the frontline subjects in the study of medicine. The department is well equipped with the state of the art facilities under the able guidance of a group of erudite academicians who have remarkable achievements in their own field. The department is well equipped with following facilities.

DEPARTMENT OF RADIOLOGY

The Radiology Department provides all kind of radio- imagine tests like CT scan, X-Ray, ultra sound. The department is well equipped with

DEPARTMENT OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

Our department of Ophthalmology is equipped with all the modern instruments required for treatment of common disorders like slit lamp Bio-microscope, operating microscope with zoom facility, Applanation Tonometer, Keratometer, cryounit etc.

Our impatient department is 10 bedded and we provide surgical as well as diagnostic services for treatment of cataract, glaucoma, Dacryocytitis, pterygiven and all other anterior segment diseases of the eye. The faculty consists of a team of highly qualified and experienced surgeons all of which have been trained in microsurgery.

In the near future, we are planning to add lasers, perimetry, B-scan ultrasonography as well as facilities for retinal surgery to our therapeutic armentarium.

DEPARTMENT OF ENT

KIMS has a full fledged running ENT department comprising of outdoor, indoor and ultramodern ENT OT. Our department comprises of most of the modern ENT surgical equipments. We are doing all minor and major operations of ENT which are not available at most of the hospitals in Orissa.

We have Zeiss operationg ENT microscope, storz rigid nasal endoscope of 0 deg and 30 deg for both adult and pediatric cases. We have all equipments for micro ear surgery, micro laryngeal surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, tonsil and adenoid surgery, septoplasty and Rhinoplasty surgery. Our hospital equipped with micro drill and we have a very good visual system for better surgery.

Our department is capable of doing all type of ear surgery, vocal cord surgery, voice surgery, sinus disease and allergy disease surgery, tonsil and adenoid surgery, surgery for snoring, surgery for nasal septum and nasal beautification, surgery for broken mandibil and maxilla, surgery for growth nasal cavity.

Dr. K.K. Samantaray is capable of doing all the above surgeries independently and he has trained in various hospitals across India.

DEPARTMENT OF DENTISTRY

Department of Dental Surgery at PBMH, KIMS is well equipped with instruments & materials that can deliver modern and latest treatment modalities in the field of dental and oral science. Routine treatment procedures like extraction, root canal treatment, scaling, restoration etc are well carried out in an electronically operated dental chair and with the help of latest ultrasonic sealens, light cure machine and other hand instruments.

Facilities for minor oral surgical procedures like apicoectomy, fracture reduction, cyst removal etc are also available in the dept. of dental surgery. Jointly the department of pathology and the dept. of dental surgery have established facilities for early detection of various pruanecrous lesions and conditions and various cancerous lesions in the oral cavity.

This department is also concerned with academic activities like seminars, case discussions, journal club to improve the scientific knowledge.
